  1. GOTTA SING GOTTA DANCE - A black ink and gray color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears in "GALAXY, July 1976," story by John Varley.

I don't know about you, but I love music and dancing. They became an important part of my life when I was a teenager; when girls began to effect my breathing and caused embarrassing things to happen to my body.

But I am disappointed that I never developed a good singing voice, or made a better effort at learning to dance. I love to watch those who are really good at it, and I suppose that's why I enjoy Broadway Musicals so much, and why I often watch those old time Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies on my DVDs.

It's hard to imagine, but way, way, back in time, so long ago that hunting for something to eat and finding a place to be safe and warm was all that humans beings thought about. Until, that first human being came along who began humming, and got others to hum along with him. And to whoever was the first human to begin shuffling his feet to the rhythm of the hummers or to the beat of a drum. Cause . . .

    "They started something,
Yes they did but they didn't even know it . . ."

    Hit song, "You Started Something"
From the romantic musical comedy movie, "Moon Over Miami"
starring Betty Grable and Don Ameche
    - 1941 -
